The majority of adults spend a significant number of their waking hours at work. Conditions in the workplace can impact a person鈥檚 health and contribute to injury and illness. Workplaces are therefore ideal settings to reach specific populations for targeted interventions that promote health and well-being. Physical activity, healthy eating, stress management and tobacco avoidance are essential in maintaining a healthy workforce and lowering the risk of chronic diseases. Promoting a culture of health in workplaces provides opportunities for employees to change their behaviors in an effort to prevent and/or manage chronic health conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer and stroke.
